Why Choose Prime Series — Star Delta?

What actually matters when you put this on your line

Fully Automatic Operation

Handles the entire Star-to-Delta start sequence on its own, with no manual switching between connections needed.

Star Delta Reduced Starting Current

Starts the motor in Star before switching to Delta, cutting inrush current and reducing stress on the motor, cabling and upstream breakers.

Digital Soft-Switch Settings

Overload, over-voltage and under-voltage cut-offs are set through a digital soft-switch interface instead of manual knobs, for more precise and repeatable settings.

External Command Support

Supports remote trip and external command signals, so it can be tied into SCADA, a BMS or a level controller for site-wide automation.

Multiple Motor Protections

Single phasing, reverse phasing, phase unbalance, over/under voltage, overload and short-circuit protection all run continuously, with dry run available as an add-on.

Wide HP Range (7.5 to 125 HP)

One series covers small pump motors right up to large industrial loads, so you can standardise on Prime Series across a wide range of equipment.

Suitable for Industrial and Pump Applications

Built for the duty cycles seen in submersible and centrifugal pumps, compressors, HVAC systems and general industrial machinery.

Custom Panel Manufacturing Support

Subtech can adapt enclosure size, ratings and add-ons like dry-run sensing to your specific site requirement.

How Prime Series — Star Delta Works

Step-by-step operating sequence

  1. 1

    Motor Starts in Star Connection

On the start command, the contactor connects the motor windings in Star, limiting inrush current.

  2. 2

    Starting Current Is Reduced

The Star connection drops the line current to roughly a third of a direct-on-line start, reducing stress on the motor and supply.

  3. 3

    Timer/Control Logic Monitors the Transition

An internal timer (or digital control logic on automatic models) tracks how long the motor has been running in Star.

  4. 4

    Starter Switches to Delta Connection

Once the motor has picked up speed, the panel switches the winding connection to Delta for full running torque.

  5. 5

    Motor Runs at Full Load

In Delta, the motor receives full line voltage across each winding and runs at rated output.

  6. 6

    Protection System Monitors Faults Continuously

Single phasing, reverse phasing, voltage and overload protection continue monitoring the motor throughout the run.

Common Problems This Solves

Real failure modes on the motor side, and how this panel prevents them

High Starting Current

Star-Delta switching reduces inrush current at start-up compared to a direct-on-line start, easing stress on the motor, cabling and upstream breakers.

Motor Overheating

Sustained overload, phase and voltage faults raise winding temperature over time; the panel's built-in protections cut power before heat damages the insulation.

Single Phasing

Detects the loss of any one phase and cuts power before the motor overheats or burns its windings.

Reverse Phase Sequence

Checks phase sequence before allowing the motor to start, preventing motors and pumps from running backward.

Voltage/Phase Imbalance

Trips the motor when the three phases drift too far apart in voltage, which otherwise causes uneven heating in the windings.

Over-Voltage Spikes

Cuts power when supply voltage rises above the safe band, protecting insulation and electronics.

Under-Voltage / Low Supply

Cuts power when voltage drops too low, preventing the motor from drawing excess current to compensate.

Motor Overload

Monitors running current and trips before sustained overload can overheat the motor.

Short Circuit / Wiring Fault

MCB/MCCB protection isolates the circuit immediately on a short circuit, protecting the panel and wiring.

Dry Running (Pump Losing Prime)

Optional dry-run protection stops the motor when there's no load/flow, preventing pump damage from running dry.

Frequent Tripping From Wrong Model Selection

Use the selection guide above to match your motor's HP and relay range to the correct reference number — an undersized relay setting is a common cause of nuisance tripping.
