Pump Automation

Pump Automation

Single-phase to three-phase. Borewell, submersible, jet, and booster pumps. Dry-run protection, phase failure protection, level-sensor integration. 0.5 HP to 50 HP.

The most common reason a motor burns in India is not a winding defect. It is a protection gap. Subtech pump automation panels close all three gaps automatically.

Overview

What Does a Pump Automation Panel Do?

A pump automation panel does three things a manual starter cannot: it starts the pump automatically when water is needed, stops it automatically when the tank is full or the borewell is dry, and shuts the motor down before damage occurs if a protection condition is detected.

For a borewell pump, the panel monitors the water level in the borewell via a float switch or electrode probe.

For overhead tank filling, the panel monitors the tank level via electrodes or a float switch and stops the pump when full.

Municipal and institutional installations typically run two or more pumps. The automation panel handles auto-changeover between pumps, equal run-hour rotation, and start/stop sequencing.

Key Benefits

Why this matters for your facility

Dry-Run Protection. The Motor Stops Before It Burns.

Borewell and submersible pump motors fail when they run against air. The panel detects zero-flow or low borewell level and stops the motor within seconds.

Phase Failure and Phase Imbalance Protection.

A three-phase pump motor running on two phases draws 40-50% more current on the remaining phases and fails within minutes.

Auto Start / Stop on Tank Level.

Electrode probes or float switches in the overhead and sump tanks tell the panel exactly when to start and stop.

Auto-Changeover Between Duty and Standby Pumps.

For jockey-plus-main pump pairs, the panel automatically rotates duty to equalise run hours.

GSM / SMS Remote Control (Optional).

An optional GSM module lets you start or stop the pump by SMS or via a mobile app.

Over-current, Under-voltage, and Over-voltage Protection.

The panel monitors supply voltage continuously.

Who Uses This

Where Subtech panels are deployed

Borewell Pumps for Agriculture

Submersible borewell pumps on agricultural land run unattended for hours.

Residential and Commercial Booster Stations

Apartment complexes and commercial buildings rely on booster pump panels to maintain water pressure.

Municipal Water Supply: UP Jal Nigam, Delhi Jal Board

Gram panchayat and municipal pumping schemes use Subtech pump automation panels with GSM telemetry.

Hotels, Hospitals, and Institutions

Domestic water supply for a 100-room hotel or a 300-bed hospital cannot depend on a manual operator.

Industrial Process Water and Cooling Towers

Process water supply for manufacturing plants and cooling tower circulation pumps need continuous operation.

Cold Storage and Food Processing

Chiller condenser water pumps and fire sprinkler jockey pumps in cold storage facilities.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is dry-run protection and why does my pump panel need it?
Dry-run means the pump is running but there is no water flowing through it. A dry-run relay trips the contactor and stops the motor before winding temperature reaches the damage threshold.
What causes phase failure in pump motors and how does the panel protect against it?
Phase failure happens when one of the three supply phases is lost. A phase failure relay in the pump panel detects the loss of any phase within one to two cycles and trips the contactor before thermal damage occurs.
Can the panel start and stop the pump automatically based on tank level?
Yes. The panel connects to electrode probes or float switches in the overhead tank and, optionally, the sump.
Can I control the pump via mobile phone?
Yes, with our optional GSM module. You send an SMS to the panel's SIM card number with a start or stop command.
